I’m thinking to set up the following filtration system. An Eheim 2215 for chemical and mechanical filtration, and a Eheim 2213 for the biological work. Any comments on this design?
The key to any aquarium filtration system is to keep it simple and targeted to your needs only. This eliminates unnecessary cost from the buying and running the equipment, as well as the maintenance part of it.
Because of the various kinds of filters out in the market now, including the kind of filtration they do and the advertised “benefits” of these kinds of filtration, people tend to get confused and think that jamming two different models of filters doing their kind of filtration is the best idea. That way they get all mechanical, chemical and biological filtration in their tanks.
The truth of the matter is bacteria tend to build up in every filter model you install, whether you’ve got one or two. A good rule of thumb is to build a strong bio filter first before trying to add others. It is also important to consider the size of your tank and the load you have in there.
Start with the Eheim 2215
You can start with a single Eheim 2215 layered with 2 blue pads, splintered glass and another blue pad on top. The rings take care of mechanical filtration while the splintered glass acts for bio. Many aquarium enthusiasts agree that chemical filtration is pointless in a healthy tank. The carbon pad will work for a day at best and then revert to leeching phosphates all throughout its stay in the tank.

Question:
I recently bought a 50 gallon tank, and wondering to either set-up a wet/dry filter or install an external canister filter. I'm aware that wet/dry is mainly used for marine aquariums, but also that they often provide better filtration. I want to keep some fancy tosakin goldfish in my aquarium.
Perhaps a canister is still the best option, but if wet/dry filter do a better job and by the looks of it are easily to make yourself it's tempting to go for a a good DIY option.
Do you guys think I should shell $200+ for a canister or build a wet/dry myself. And is the DIY an option anyway?

I think you can go for the sump set up. It’s a much cheaper solution and the filtration is okay. A really low cost solution is to make the sump from a Tupperware container or an old unused aquarium.
You need to get a good pump and overflow box, that’s the more expensive part. But they are very simple to set up and can be done at a fraction of the cost of a canister

Can you tell me how many blue pads I need in the Eheim 2217? I now I need to have 1 carbon filter at the top. Are all the blue pads coarse or are their different grains.
Fluval or Eheim for my 100 Gallon Tank
In two weeks time I will get a new 100 gallon tank and am wondering about a good filter to take. For my smaller tank I’m using a Fluval 105 canister filter and it’s doing fine. I’m wondering if I should get the Fluval 405 for my new tank or buy and Eheim. I noticed a lot of Eheim’s have extra features like inbuilt heaters are they any good?
I plan to keep an Oscar in the new tank; some sites recommend having both an internal and external filter for the Oscar. What are your opinions and/or thoughts about a canister filter for my 100 gallon tank with an Oscar?

Eheim Sludge Extractor – Do I need to Take out Water?
I've been using a manual pump siphon for three years. I'm currently suffering from a back injury which doesn't allow me to lift buckets anymore... so I've been looking for alternative solutions to clean the tank effectively without buckets. I've looked into the Python, and Aqueon siphons connected to faucet, however I also saw Eheim's Sludge Extractor which works like a battery operated vacuum. If one cleans the glunk from the gravel and adds fresh water, and uses a good external filter, is it necessary to still take out water for cleaning?

Plenty of people have asked me about my tank, cabinet, and filter combination (does it all fit comfortably, what's the flow like, etc). Here's the video to hopefully clear those questions up. I intend on adding a duplicate filter/heater set up on the other side of the tank shortly. Tank is still cycling hence no livestock yet.

How to Replace Eheim Pro II Canister Filter Carbon Pad?
I bought an Eheim Pro II Canister Filter that has always worked really well, but I would like to put a carbon filter pad in it.
I have a carbon pad that is especially made for the Eheim filters, but I have no instructions whatsoever on where I should put it within the filter!
Below is a pic of a normal Eheim setup, but my filter has an extra gray media bucket in between the top media bucket with a white pad and the bottom media bucket with the blue pad (on top):

So I just want to see if I put the pad in place of something, or between the white and blue pad, or what?
