Experienced fishkeepers: Rena filstar XP2 inlet question, 55 gallon?
Hi, this question is for those with experience of Rena canister filters. I've had a new Rena Aqualife tank in cycling for a week now and its well planted and seeded with a little fish waste and fish food in the hope to speed up cycle.
I'm happy with the Rena filstar, the outflow is great and it's very quiet. My question is is it normal that the inlet does not seem to suck up much? Bits of plant and food and waste I added when seeding have just gone moldy or grown fungus or something and are not seeming to get sucked up much, they just float by it if I stir them up. My old small rena tank with a biobox would suck up everything in its path in comparison-Am I supposed to be vacuuming all debris as the filter doesn't handle it? Shouldn't the filter be sucking it up? I've lowered the inlet siphon down lower than than the 4 inch above gravel recommended (is this ok?) and it seems to work a little better now.
Thanks in advance for any help
Which filter would be best?
Out of these 2 filters which one would be better for a 65 gallon discus tank?
Rena XP3 Canister Filter (Aquariums Up to 175 Gallons, 350 GPH)
Fluval 305 (Aquariums up to 70 gallons, 305 GPH)
Which one would be better?
There is also a possibility that there would be an EHEIM ecco filter for up to 80 gallons on the tank too along with the fluval or rena.
I would get the Rena XP 4 (450 GPH, For tanks up to 265 Gallons) if I could get it for this price http://www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCatalog/ctl3684/cp17290/si1685118/cl1/aquarium_pharmaceuticals_rena_filstar_xp_4_canister_filter?&query=Rena+XP+3&queryType=0&hits=12&offset=0 .

Canister filter location/position?
I am planing on getting a canister, but my tank is on a desk so i have no way of postioning it and i don't plan on getting a tank cabinet, any suggestions on how i can do this?
Does a canister have to be under tank level? Most instruction state that it should be under tanks? what would happen if it was at tank levels? What would happen if it was over tank level?
Any help would be helpful, Thanks
Type of canister- Rena Filstar xp4?
Can I use a Canister Filter for a Saltwater Aquarium?
The sump cost more than the tank. All I have is one puffer in a 100 gallon tank. I was thinking of purchasing the Fluval 405 or Rena X4. Will it work? How come the local pet shop keep nagging me about a sump and that it's a "must have"?
Thanks!
Do I really even need carbon in my filter>?
Do I need carbon in my Rena XP4 canister filter? I've rad some people say yes, some say no. What's the deal?
