How to Clean the Hose of my Eheim Cannister Filter

If have an Eheim 2128 external filter and I'm very happy with it. Lately though the intake and out-flow hoses start to look as if strange slime is building up inside.
What's the cause of this phenomenon, and does anyone know how to clean and correct the problem?

I’ve experienced the same problem but don’t know the cause. But there is a cleaning solution available for the hose. It’s like a bottle brush on a piece of flexible plastic. Feed the plastic end through, then twist and pull the brush through the tube. It worked for me.
