I cleaned my eheim external canister filter, about a week ago, and my water is still very cloudy! help!?
I think it is algae in the water, because it looks green. What is the best thing to do?
I did a water change and it doesn't look different... help...
It might be free-floating algae as opposed to the algae that anchors on the glass, gravel, or other places. This is usually a reslut of too much light and too many nutrients in the tank. Keep your light off for a few days (unless you have live aquatic plants), or at least reduce your photoperiod. Do a few partial water changes to lower any nitrates or phosphates in the water. You might also want to test your tapwater to be sure there aren’t nitrates if you use that as your water source – if there are, you might need to switch to reverse osmosis water or a use a filter that will remove organics before adding the tap water to your tank. If you continue to have problems, try using a phosphate pad in the tank – many water companies add phosphate to keep pipes from corroding.
