recommend a good turtle filter?

I have a 2 1/2 inch RES in a 30 gallon tank with about 3-4 gallons of water (ill post a vid) living with some feeder fish.... i have tried the decorative filter from tetrafonda and it failed miserably. T~T I need someone to recommend a good filter like i know it has to have 3 way filtration and carbon media but im having trouble finding one worth the price ( im pretty poor) but if it works im willing to pay good money. I was thinking one of these filters:
EHEIM Ecco External Canister Filters

http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=485543

I like this one and its cheaper but is it any good??
Marineland Magnum 350 Dual Purpose Canister Filter

http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?sku=157180

I really love this one i think it is perfect but the price literally scares me o.0

so im sorry i ask stupid questions at times but this is my pet i want the best for it.

One Response to recommend a good turtle filter?

  • ShibaGirl says:

Either of these filters are good, though I prefer the Eheim brand, but both should work fine with the tubing that comes with them. I would recommend checking with a local petstore that maybe takes in used equipment to see if you can get a deal on a used one. Otherwise, check on http://www.craigslist.com or even ebay. You can get much better pricing than Petco. I think Petsmart is even cheaper than Petco actually.

Being that turtles live a really long time, and they are very dirty… A good filter is worth the investment. Please know, that your 30 gallon tank will eventually be too small for your RES and make sure what ever filter you get now will be good for a bigger tank in the future.
